Balance

Balance is a fascinating pursuit. It is an elusive precision sought by all and fleeting by nature.  Balance is more creative than apparent symmetry and oddly, more intuitive when we flail to regain it.  More importantly, balance brings peace, peace in our bodies, peace in our thoughts  and peace in our souls.   It is aligning oneself with purpose and maintaining it.  That purpose may be a pose (as in yoga or as in remaining true to one’s beliefs) or that purpose may be a pursuit (darting through the woods unscathed in capture-the-flag or discerning truth as a journalist).

When balance is struck, there is suddenly a sense of weightlessness, because each element has the appropriate counterbalance of significance (mass) or momentum (force).  That instant of precision is exhilarating; ask any engineer or athlete.

Equilibrioception is the physical sense of balance, however the principles of balance are universal, whether applied to art, socioeconomics or life fulfillment. It involves perspective and focus (visual system), the tracking of directional forces and changes, whether internal or external (vestibular system) and constant awareness and control of self-positioning (proprioception) all working together.

Simplified, balance is a fluid use of perspective, forces and positioning to maintain a purpose with “weightless” efficiency.

Grace is when you make it look easy,…when you are so well practiced, all you need is to be in the here and now to maintain alignment with your purpose.

Homeschooling is a lifestyle, thus it automatically offers life balance as an unofficial seminar with everyday labs. Think of it as family fun in the sport of life: dodging, counterbalancing, deflecting, repositioning, accelerating, developing flexibility, rotating.  If you cannot change one factor, change another to achieve the tranquility and ease of equilibrium, because each person and each endeavor is better in balance.

"A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life."

-William Arthur Ward
