When ideal resources, environment or circumstance are not an option - welcome to Unconventional Schooling 101.

Don’t sweat what you don’t have, can’t find near you, or don’t have the cash for. Creative problem solving is not just for our kids to practice.

"The courage to imagine the otherwise is our greatest resource, adding color and suspense to all our life." -Daniel J. Boorstin

Just as this site is free, there are so many resources available if you are willing to search, ask, borrow or barter. I speak from experience. The more you think outside the box, the more abundant the resources available, including community resources Libraries offer far more than just books. Sports programs may make financial exceptions for the exceptionally dedicated athlete. A neighbor that needs their gutters cleaned may be a retired poetry professor or speak a foreign language fluently. You and your community (be that local, online or through networking) have all the resources you need to educate your child in brilliant ways.

Your homeschool scenario may entail some makeshift solutions, but there are times those creative alternatives are more educational. The optimism, ingenuity and perseverance required builds the type of world you want your child to grow up in anyway. Camaraderie is forged as you face challenges together, but sometimes you don’t realize it until later when you share a laugh at how that all went down, for better or worse.

If you want to teach your child not to let anything stand in their way, be the first to embody that mindset, and day by day, work toward overcoming obstacles. Be the creative resource.
